We began a Rhine Riverboat trip with a stopover in Zurich and then traveled on to Basel where we boarded our riverboat. Self-confident and prosperous, Zurich is the blueprint of Swiss perfection, with its banking muscle, alpine backdrop, and love of good living. Blessed with pure air and dazzling Lake Zurich, it’s little wonder the locals are so pleased to live there.
As the 3rd-largest city in Switzerland and 53 miles from Zurich, Basel stands on the Rhine at the point where the French, German, and Swiss borders meet. Also a banking center, Basel has some of the most important chemical and pharmaceutical companies in the world.
