Can a Four Seasons Resort Experience Be Anything But Magical!

So how does one react when invited to a meeting, in January, in Scottsdale, Az., at a Four Seasons?  If one lives in the mid-Atlantic where winter temperatures have hovered between 18 and 34 degrees, one JUMPS at the chance to experience something new–both from a city and lodging perspective.  The Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North afforded me this opportunity, i.e., to stay in a wonderful, laid-back place set amidst a magical landscape.

From the Four Season’s website, the words describing Scottsdale are apropos: “In the high Sonoran Desert, Scottsdale is a place of western lore and cosmopolitan culture, a place of awe-inspiring beauty and spectacular golf, a place unlike any other.”  With massive boulders seemingly perilously  balanced on hilltops, Scottsdale’s landscape was both jaw-dropping and unbelievable. ( I wondered about the homes nestled at the base of Pinnacle Peak….wondered if the owners were ever concerned about the boulders tumbling down….just one good push!!!!)

Four Seasons Resort at Troon North –set amidst a rocky landscape!

All in all, my visit to Scottsdale was wonderful.  Though  I am more of a mountains, trees and green grass kind of person, the desert setting full of cacti, rocky hills and lots more sun had its own beauty.

The layout of the Four Seasons makes one meander through the property as the lodging rooms are set within casitas (independent dwellings) which encircle the main building–which houses the lobby, spa and restaurants.  As expected, the architecture is adobe style with the buildings all painted in a neutral color to better blend into the landscape..

The food—oh the food—for sure, one of my hot buttons.  I have rarely attended a meeting where I have raved about the food but this hotel had exceptional cuisine.  From the food freshness, to its creative presentation…for each of our meals…either  buffet style or ala carte within the restaurants, this hotel continuously hit a home run.  For sure, I would recommend the dining options.

My visit wasn’t super long and I was there long enough to see a little, but not all that the area offers.  We made a trip to Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright’s home, studio, and architectural campus.  What a treat!  Even without being a student of modern architecture, I greatly enjoyed our visit.  Our guide was “really” enthusiastic and made us appreciate the nuances of Wright’s architectural style.

With the Scottsdale/Phoenix area being the setting for “SUPERBOWL 49″, it makes one realize that this area must have lots to offer.  Between the golf courses, “old-town” Scottsdale, hiking, red rocks of Sedona (within 1.5 hours), a multitude of spas, great shopping, universities–to name a few things, there’s lots to do!

For sure, this was a trip worth taking and I’d jump at the chance to visit again.  Of course, anyone who knows me recognizes that I will always jump at the chance to experience a great hotel.  The Four Seasons at Troon North was no exception.
